Ben Geddes scored a powerful 95 on the third day of their opening Second XI Championship match with Sussex at Guildford

Surrey scored 267/6 declared before Sussex reached 161/4 at the close of the third day at Woodbridge Road.

The Three Feathers started the third day 6/0 after bowling the visitors out for 370. Gill was caught behind by keeper Oli Carter off the bowling of Sean Hunt for 8.

Geddes powered on with captain Josh Blake, and the pair added 117 for the second wicket. Opener Geddes found the boundary 17 times on his way to 95 at just over a run a ball before he was caught behind off the bowling of Hunt.

Blake was joined by Stuart van der Merwe, who added 5 before he was caught behind off the bowling of Bertie Foreman with a delivery that turned and bounced.

Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year Ollie Sykes hit two big sixes on his way to 42 before being dismissed by leg spin bowler Archie Lenham.

Conor McKerr joined Blake and looked to attack, scoring three boundaries on his way to 16 before being caught in the slips off the bowling of Henry Crocombe.

Blake passed 50 and powered on with Tommy Ealham to add 36 more runs before Tommy was caught behind off the bowling of Ibraham for 7.

Captain Blake declared on 267/6, with himself on 72 not out at tea on the third day.

Sussex went out for the third innings with a lead of 103 and looked to score quickly.

Conor McKerr bowled Archie Lenham with the score of 35/1 from 4.2 overs. Opener Zach Lion-Cachet was next to go for a run a ball 33, caught at mid on by Matt Dunn off the bowling of Yousef Majid.

The score reached 128 before the next wicket came, as Tommy Ealham had Oli Carter stumped for 37.

At the end of the 35th over, Tommy Ealham removed Henry Rogers lbw to leave Sussex 154/4. Sussex reached 161/4 before the end of play at 6:50pm.
