Man of the Match Ben Foakes and stand in captain Gareth Batty both gave their reflections on Surrey’s victory over Middlesex on Saturday.
Surrey held Middlesex to 113/9 from their 20 overs but were in a spot of bother when they found themselves 23/4 after five overs. That’s when Foakes & Smith came together with a partnership that saw the hosts over the line at The Kia Oval.
Speaking to Sky’s Mark Butcher, Batty said: “I still love the game and I think it showed in my emotion getting the second wicket. I love being around this great club and a brilliant bunch of lads.
“We’ve got a nice formula, particularly at home. We certainly didn’t expect the scores to be as low as they were but that’s credit to how Will Jacks bowled straight up and then Ben Foakes’ quality backed it up.
After taking the Man of the Match accolade, Foakes said: “It’s nice to be out playing cricket. It was a long time in the bubble but being around England is always good.
“I had 11 months off so you have plenty of time to work on stuff. Hopefully I can stick to that technical work I did.
“I knew spin was going to be hard to score off so no risks off those and then scoring off the seamers would be easier.”
