Surrey County Cricket Club is now seeking applications from Members to be elected onto its General Committee (GC) in 2026.

As a Members Club, Surrey is owned and run by its Members, and the GC oversees all areas of Club business. Each year at the AGM, four new Members of the Club are announced as elected onto the GC, and begin a four-year term as officers of the Club.

The GC acts in accordance with Club Rules, and some examples of key decisions which rest with the GC include: the election of the Club Chair, the granting of testimonial years, or the limit on the Club’s total membership.

David Gill, a GC Member elected in 2022, and also a trustee of the Surrey Cricket Foundation and former Surrey Board member, says: “I have one piece of advice if you are considering standing for the General Committee, and that is to have a go and, if at first you don’t succeed, then try again. I know of quite a few GC members who failed at the first attempt but learnt from it.

“For me, personally, being on the General Committee at one of the most revered and historic sporting venues in the world has been one of the great privileges of my life. I’m sure it would be for you, too.”

Kim Barlow, co-opted onto the GC last year, adds: “Having been a Member for a number of years, I applied for election to the General Committee in 2025 as I wanted to have a say in the future of the Club, and to give any support and assistance to the Club that I could.

“I have been co-opted onto the committee for a year, and it has been so rewarding. Meeting and chatting to Surrey Members, visiting other grounds and talking to like-minded cricket lovers has been such a pleasure, while all the time being a proud representative of this truly wonderful cricket club.”

If there are more than four candidates standing for election, then an election occurs. Votes are cast by all Members following the publication of the annual report, with the result announced at the Club’s Annual General Meeting, which will be held at the Kia Oval on Wednesday 29 April in the England Suite at 6pm.

Meetings are typically seven or eight times a year, and minutes are published online once approved by the GC: https://www.kiaoval.com/about-surrey-cricket/club-rules-and-minutes/

Please note that those wishing to apply must have been a Member for a minimum of 2 years, and that applications must be accompanied by proposals by five other Members.
