Surrey headed North with the Division One title already secured after a famous three-day victory over Yorkshire clinched the county crown on a famous day at The Kia Oval.
Keaton Jennings scored 199 as the hosts posted a total of 512. Dan Moriarty impressed with the ball, being rewarded for his hard toil with 5 wickets. Surrey faltered with the bat and a total of 209 meant they were forced to follow on. A second innings total of 173 meant that Lancashire were victorious by an innings and 130 runs.
LANCASHIRE
The red rose county finished second in all three competitions in 2022 and will be hoping to go one better in at least one competition in the upcoming season.
Surrey finished 25 points ahead of Lancashire last season, winning a game more. New captain and opening batter Keaton Jennings scored 1233 runs in the 2022 campaign. Tom Bailey finished top of the wicket tree last season, claiming 52 wickets at an average of 22.61.

Surrey and Lancashire have done battle 221 times in First Class history. The highest Surrey total is our 707/9dec at The Kia Oval in 1990. Lancashire’s highest total was 863 all out in the same game.
POINTS SCORING SYSTEM
There has been a change in how points are awarded in 2023 season of the LV= Insurance County Championship.
Teams score 16 points for a win and five points for a draw. Bonus points are also awarded for scoring runs and taking wickets. To find out how bonus points are calculated, click here.
Ahead of the 2023 season, it was agreed that the points awarded to each team in a draw would be reduced from eight to five.
