British, Commonwealth and European Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Azeez is joining up with Surrey County Cricket Club and the ACE Programme to show his cricket skills are greater than that of his friends, and fellow boxers, Isaac ‘IC’ Chamberlain and Denzel ‘2Sharp’ Bentley.

Azeez, 33, is fresh off a destructive stoppage victory against Thomas Faure to claim the coveted EBU European title.

The man they call ‘Super’ Dan lived up to his moniker by flying into the backyard of the experienced Frenchman, leaving Paris with the silverware around his waist.

World Titles beckon next for the Lewisham bruiser, but that is no guarantee of success in the nets at The Kia Oval.

Two boxers have taken on the ‘…vs cricket’ challenge to date, with mixed results.

The challenge is run in association with the ACE Programme, with ACE Director Chevy Green always on-hand to cast his eye over the cricket newbies.

Chevy said: “I’m looking forward to welcoming Dan to The Kia Oval. We’ve had a couple of professional boxers take on the ‘vs cricket’ challenge now and it’s always been a fun time.

“They’re naturally very competitive so they really listen and try and be the best they can be. So far, I’d say Denzel (Bentley) pips it as a batter – hitting consecutive balls at 70mph is no easy feat – whereas Isaac (Chamberlain) was the standout bowler.

“Dan assures us he’s going to be better than both, so let’s see. He’s coming off the biggest win of his career and looks set for super stardom, so it’ll be good to have the ACE kids meet him and learn about what it takes to win, but also how to keep your feet on the ground and continue to focus even after big successes.”

“It’s good for the kids from the ACE Programme having world class athletes around and we’re all excited to see how ‘super’ Dan Azeez is when it comes to cricket!”

In his chosen sport, Azeez boasts a professional record of 19 wins and zero losses, with 13 KO’s to his name.

He clinched his first major title in November 2021, when he stopped highly-touted Hosea Burton in the 7th round for the vacant British title. A year later, he added the Commonwealth title to his belt collection, forcing former World Title contender Rocky Fielding to retire on his stool after the 7th round again.

Most recently, Azeez clinched the coveted EBU European Title with a punishing last-round knockout of the aforementioned Thomas Faure.

This secured Dan’s credentials as someone who does things the ‘old fashioned way’; In his ninth professional fight he won the Southern Area title and he followed that up with the English title in his eleventh fight, beating Lawrence Osueke. By adding the British, Commonwealth and European titles to that haul he has picked up all available honours en route to a future World Title.

Stay tuned to the Surrey County Cricket Club social media channels to see whether Dan can add the honour of ‘best cricketing boxer’ to that illustrious list!
