Indian batter Mahipal Lomror joins Surrey for the final six Rothesay County Championship of the 2026 season

The 26-year-old captains his state Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy – where he plays with Surrey spin bowler Rahul Chahar. He is a vastly experienced top six batter with an impressive first-class average of 42.62 from his 63 matches. In November 2024, he hit a career-best 300 not out for Rajasthan in their match with Uttarakhand.

Mahi also bowls left arm off spin, with 62 first-class wickets. He played for the Mumbai Indians in the most recent edition of the IPL.

Surrey will be without the services of both spin-bowling all-rounders Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence in the upcoming fixtures. Jacks will spend a period on the sidelines after managing an ankle injury for much of the English summer. Lawrence has been recalled to the England Test squad for the upcoming series with Pakistan.

The Three Feathers return to red ball cricket on Thursday with the visit of Nottinghamshire in the 2026 Festival of Red Ball Cricket. Surrey will also host Yorkshire and Glamorgan in the run-in, with trips to Essex, Sussex and Somerset.

Director of Men’s Cricket Alec Stewart said: “With the busy schedule of international, franchise and domestic cricket around the world, I’m pleased to add Mahipal Lomror to our available squad of players.”

“With the loss of Lawrence and Jacks’ ability to bowl spin, it was important to add a batter who can bowl some overs of spin when required for the final stage of the season. We look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room ahead of this week’s match with Nottinghamshire.”

On signing for Surrey, Mahipal Lomror said: “I’m happy to join Surrey for the remainder of the season. Playing in the County Championship is a huge opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment and learn from an experienced group.”
