Surrey CCC Members are invited to a virtual evening with two of English cricket’s great raconteurs – David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd and Vic Marks.

The event, which will take place on Zoom, is set for Wednesday December 16th at 6.30pm.

Both commentators will be in conversation with the Club’s Head of Communications Jon Surtees, answering Members’ questions and telling some of the best stories from their times in the game.

Prior to their media careers, both Bumble and Vic enjoyed extremely successful playing careers with Lancashire, Somerset and England, playing fifteen Test Matches between them and starring in the domestic game for many years.

After retirement their careers initially took different paths, with Bumble first training as an umpire and then becoming Head Coach of England from 1996 to 1999. After leaving coaching, he immediately joined the media and has become one of the most popular commentators of recent times.

Vic retired from the game after a fifteen year career for Somerset in which he was known as one of the most popular players on the circuit. He immediately became a cricket journalist and writes regularly about the game for The Guardian and The Observer, as well as contributing his insight and dry wit to the BBC’s Test Match Special team for many years.

Both Bumble and Vic have released new books this year. ‘Simply the Best’ by David Lloyd is a collection of his stories of the most important, influential, talented and entertaining characters he has come across in sixty years in the game, whilst ‘Original Spin’ by Vic Marks is the story of his life in cricket and has been nominated for both The Cricket Society and the MCC Book of the Year award in 2020.

The event is free of charge to all Members, who will be e-mailed a Zoom link allowing them to join. The maximum capacity of a Zoom call is 500 and attendance is first come, first served. For those unable to make it live, the conversation will be recorded and broadcast on the Club website and YouTube channel afterwards.

To get your questions into Vic and Bumble, simply e-mail them to members@surreycricket.com and the best will be chosen to use on the night!
