Surrey’s travels will see them play Middlesex (5 August) at Radlett, Notts Outlaws (13 August) at The John Fretwell Centre, Yorkshire Vikings (15 August) at York CC, and for their final group game, Essex Eagles (22 August) at Chelmsford.

Group B is formed by Derbyshire, Durham, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire Steelbacks, Somerset, Sussex Sharks, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire Rapids.

ONE DAY CUP

For the group stage of the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023, counties are divided into two groups of nine, with every side playing each other once. Teams placed second and third in the group standings after eight rounds of fixtures will progress to the quarterfinals – meaning that there will be two quarterfinals – while table toppers from both groups will head directly into the semi-finals.

Kent are the defending champions, having defeated Lancashire by 21 runs at Trent Bridge in the competition final last year. This year’s final is also scheduled at Trent Bridge on Saturday, 16 September.

SURREY

Head coach Gareth Batty will select his side from the list of players not featuring in The Hundred this August. With 13 men’s players selected by various outlets in The Hundred, it will give an opportunity to Surrey’s rest of the squad, including many of the younger and less-experienced players, to showcase their skills and inspire the Three Feathers’ 50-over campaign. The presence of regular red-ball starters in the squad will provide balance and experience to Surrey’s young side.

Geddes (567 runs at 51.5), Blake (460 runs at 65.7) and Patel (399 runs at 79.8), who have been highly impressive in the Second XI Championship, will be keen for a good showing in the 50-over competition, as will be Cam Steel, who was Surrey’s first centurion of the season in the LV= Insurance County Championship.

In the bowling department, Virdi, McKerr, and Moriarty have been Surrey’s leading wicket-takers in the Second XI Championship, with 26, 16 and 11 scalps respectively, while Majid was the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the Second XI T20 competition, claiming 16 dismissals.

James Taylor and Nathan Barnwell have both suffered stress fractures of the back and will be unavailable for an extended period of time as they recover.
