It may be a shortened season but after more than 10 months out of the country, Morne Morkel is just delighted to be back playing for Surrey.

The great South African bowler arrived in the UK last week and was called straight into the action for the trip to Arundel to face Hampshire.

After smashing 33 from 25 balls in his first involvement in the game on the third morning, it was then back to his day job. Steaming in with all the enthusiasm of a bowler that hasn’t realised a ball in anger for the best part of a year, Morkel was dangerous throughout.

He spoke to Mark Church after the third day of play. Click on the below video to hear what he had to say.

“It was fantastic to be back. That was my first outing for six months. I was a bit nervous, nothing compares to time in the middle.

“For us we stuck with it today. The two heavy rollers have changed the conditions on the pitch.

“There is a lot of hard work to do in the morning.

“It was nice to bat this morning. I spoke to Vik yesterday and told him I’d be aggressive. I was a bit lucky with a couple flying through the slips but it was nice to get a handy partnership at the end.

“The most important thing is to not look too far ahead. We need the guys to keep a strong head

“There are 90 overs to still be played and a lot can happen.”
