Player Bio

Surrey through and through, Smith is our leader on and off the pitch

Smith is the first official captain of Surrey’s professional women’s team, having successfully performed that role for the South East Stars – where she lifted the Charlotte Edwards Cup in 2021. She has represented Surrey since she was nine years old, making her senior debut at 16 before playing for the Surrey Stars in the Kia Super League.

Smith has represented England in IT20 and ODI cricket and was part of the recent England Development XI that played Pakistan in May. The all-rounder also played in the Big Bash in 2023 for the Hobart Hurricanes and represents the Trent Rockets in the Hundred.

In 2022, Smith – as the Stars’ skipper – led the team to the semi-finals of the Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy, topping the wickets column in the former and the runs chart in the latter.

Smith joined the Surrey set-up in the girls’ pathway as a nine-year-old playing in the Under 11s and has never left. In 2022, she captained Surrey in the London Cup as they took on Middlesex at The Kia Oval. Four years on from her debut against India, 2022 also saw a return to England colours for Smith.

Resilience is a word that is often associated with Smith’s cricketing career. Her journey started as a young girl playing with her older brother on the boundary edge as their dad turned out for Wallington CC. With no girls’ sections at local clubs, Smith played with the boys all the way through the age groups, and it is something that she places a huge value on in her own development as a player.

Smith will be looking to continue to impress in order to solidify a place in England’s squads to come alongside inspiring Surrey to greater heights.
