2020 was something of a breakthrough season, playing two Bob Willis Trophy matches and nine Vitality Blast fixtures.

Atkinson who earned his professional contract in October 2017 has represented the Club since U12 level.

The right-arm seamer turned out for the 2nd XI consistently from 2017 to 2019 before making the step up to first team in the curtailed 2020 season. He quickly became a key man with the ball, especially in the death overs in white ball cricket, and after briefly shining in the Royal London Cup was picked up by Southern Brave in The Hundred.

Atkinson took 13 wickets in 4 Championship outings as Surrey romped to the 2022 Championship crown.
