A highly technical batter and a live wire in the field, Gorantla has a lot of promise
Nikhil Gorantla signed a multi-year, full-time contract with Surrey in the summer of 2025 as a 22-year-old, following a list of impressive performances for the Surrey Second XI.
A technically strong right-handed batter, Gorantla had been a part of the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) since 2023, and he had also joined the relaunched MCC Young Cricketers Programme in 2025.
Prior to signing with Surrey, Gorantla had impressed in other counties’ Second XIs in recent seasons. He scored a double hundred for Essex’s Second XI against Yorkshire in 2022 and also an solid century for Northumberland in their Showcase match with Durham in 2023.
Born in Cambridge, he was part of the Cambridgeshire set up from U10s to U15s before being part of the Essex age group system and Academy until 2022.
He graduated from Durham University with a degree in Chemistry in 2025 and played for their cricket team. While at university, Gorantla also played for South Northumberland Cricket Club in Newcastle before moving to Sawston and Babraham in the East Anglian Premier League in 2025.
