A 6’7” tall right-arm fast bowler, French joined the Surrey pathway at the U-14 level and was a part of the Academy for two years before penning the contract. He also regularly featured in England U-19 squads, playing age-group cricket against India, South Africa and Sri Lanka, during that time frame.

In those games, French impressed with a best of 4/81 versus Sri Lanka in a Youth Test at Wormsley as well as picking up eight wickets in the Youth ODI series against India, including a tally of 4/71 at Northampton.

At the time of signing, French played his club cricket for Esher and graduated from Cranleigh School in 2025, studying there for two years.
