Surrey through and through, Lawes makes the ball talk and is skilful with the bat
Lawes, who developed on the Surrey Talent Pathway, is a supremely skilful fast-medium bowler, a solid lower-order bat, and is a very athletic fielder in the squad. The all-rounder, who signed his a rookie contract in 2021 and his first fully-professional contract in the following year, attended Cranleigh School and plays Surrey Championship cricket for Cranleigh CC.
2022 was a breakthrough season for the young all-rounder. First Class, T20 and List A debuts came with incredible success for Lawes. He took 4/51 in his first innings of Championship cricket against Kent in June, finishing the 2022 Championship season with 18 wickets and a winners medal around his neck. The Royal London Cup saw Lawes assume the responsibility of opening the bowling and batting in the middle order. He scored 318 runs at an average of 53.00 whilst taking eight wickets with the ball.
Lawes stock continued to rise in 2023, taking 39 wickets at an average of below 20, including his maiden First-Class five-for, also earning a call up to England Lions. Injury hampered first half of the 2024 season for Lawes but he made a strong comeback, picking up a crucial four wicket haul in a crunch match versus Essex, as Surrey completed a historic three-peat of County Championships. The talented allrounder spent the winter of 2024 again with the Lions.
Lawes was selected by the Oval Invincibles for the 2023 season of The Hundred as an injury replacement and spent 2024 with Northern Superchargers, who have retained him for the 2025 season as well.
