Sean Abbott was one of the key men as New South Wales hammered Western Australia in the final of the 50 over Marsh Cup in Australia.

Abbott will join Surrey in May for three LV= County Championship matches and the entirety of our Vitality Blast campaign and looked in incredible form on Sunday, taking 4/23 from seven overs to lead his side to the trophy.

After scoring 14 of New South Wales’ 251/8 from their 50 overs, Abbott set to work with the ball in hand. His first wicket was that of white ball international opener Josh Philippe, trapped in front for 14.

He then got the two key men in the middle order too, captain Mitch Marsh and wicket keeper batsman Josh Inglis for 17 and 29 respectively. His final wicket was that of all-rounder Ashton Turner.

New South Wales will go for the double next week when they play in the Sheffield Shield final against Queensland, starting on the 15th April.

When Abbott arrives, he will replace Kemar Roach as the second overseas player in Surrey’s squad. Roach is in the UK and expected to be available for next week’s match with Leicestershire at The Kia Oval.
