Surrey have made the short trip to Beckenham to face Kent in the Second XI Championship

The hosts declared overnight with the score 401/6. A report from the second day can be found here.

Left-handed opener Sheridon Gumbs departed without scoring, leaving Surrey 8/1 in the third over.

Nico Reifer scored 16 on his return from a hand injury before departing to Arafat Bhuiyan.

Captain Ben Geddes powered on from the loss of two early wickets, scoring 48 before he departed caught and bowled by Bhuiyan. Surrey went in to the lunch break 122/3 from 33 overs.

Josh Blake and Gus Atkinson (58) steadied the Surrey ship, with the pair putting on 98 runs for the fourth wicket before Atkinson was well caught down the leg side by wicketkeeper Finch.

Nick Kimber was the next to depart for 8 as Surrey found themselves 193/5. Tim Lloyd  and Josh Blake took Surrey to 233/5 at the tea break. Blake eventually departed for 80 – an innings that included some big shots and fluent stroke-making. Tim Lloyd got to fifty before Alex Blake bowled him.

With that wicket, Surrey declared on 309/7 with Dan Moriarty 27 not out.

Dan Moriarty bowled Kent opener Marcus O’Riordan for a quick-fire 39. Moriarty repeated the feat as first innings centurion Tawanda Muyeye was bowled for 3.

Kent closed the third day on 160/2.
