A stunning opening partnership between Will Jacks and Ben Geddes saw the Surrey Second XI to a dominant win over Essex in New Malden.

After Essex elected to bat first, Surrey bowled tightly with the ball, sharing their twenty overs amongst Reece Topley, Will Jacks, Conor McKerr, Dan Moriarty, Tom Lawes, Jordan Clark and Gareth Batty.

Visiting skipper Aron Nijar (32 off 24), Sam Burgess (32 off 23) and former Surrey loanee Jack Plom (31 off 17) were the main contributors for Essex with Jacks, McKerr, Moriarty, Lawes and Batty all taking a wicket each as they closed on 145/5 from their 20.

This total proved to be no match at all for Surrey, who were led off by an 123 run opening partnership with Jacks and Geddes scoring at almost 12 an over.

Jacks (68 off 28) hit seven sixes and four boundaries whilst Geddes (65* off 35), cleared the ropes three times with seven boundaries.

The final twenty runs were easily knocked off, with the winning blow being struck from the penultimate ball of the eleventh over, with Surrey still having 49 balls to face.
