Six Surrey and South East Stars players have been shortlisted for 2024 PCA Awards
The players are nominated from their opponents and teammates in early September, with the awards ceremony taking place in London next Tuesday (1 October).
South East Stars’ Paige Scholfield has been shortlisted for the cinch PCA Women’s Player of the Year award alongside Surrey’s Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Scholfield has scored over 500 runs in the domestic regional season for the Stars and was rewarded with an England debut in both the T20 and ODI formats. Nat Sciver-Brunt – who won the award in 2017 and 2022 – was awarded the ICC’s Women’s Player of the Year Award for 2023. In July, a gate at The Kia Oval was named in her honour. Northern Diamonds’ Hollie Armitage and The Blaze’s Kathryn Bryce have also been nominated for the award.
Gus Atkinson has been shortlisted for the PCA Men’s Player of the Year award for his outstanding start to international cricket. Gus has taken 32 wickets in his first six Test matches, as well scoring his maiden career century against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. Gus took 12 wickets on Test debut and has won the County Championship with his beloved Surrey.
Gus is shortlisted alongside England teammate Joe Root, Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson and Glamorgan’s Colin Ingram.
Left-arm spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman burst on to the scene this summer taking an impressive 31 wickets. The 17-year-old also took a maiden five-fer, including a historic four wickets in four balls at Northern Diamonds.
Fellow Stars bowler, Ryana MacDonald-Gay had a brilliant season, resulting in 39 wickets and an England debut. The 20-year-old also took a maiden five-fer.
Both players – who will be playing for Surrey next season, have been nominated alongside Thunder’s Seren Smale.
County Champion Jamie Smith has been shortlisted for the PCA Young Player of the Year award. Smith has scored 487 runs in his first sic Test matches, as well 677 crucial runs at the start of the County Championship season. The 24-year-old is nominated for the second consecutive year. This year he is shortlisted alongside Essex’s Jordan Cox and Warwickshire’s Jacob Bethell.
Surrey’s Sam Curran has been awarded the Hundred Men’s PCA MVP of the Year for his outstanding contribution to Oval Invincibles’ back-to-back title success. South East Stars’ Alice Davidson-Richards has been awarded as the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Player of the Year award.
Nat Sciver-Brunt has also been awarded the Metro Bank ODI Women’s Player of the Summer award.
