Jamie Smith has received his first full England call up for the ODI series against Ireland, Smith joins Surrey team-mate Will Jacks in the team for the three match series.

Smith has played in the Surrey Talent Pathway since Under 9s and is the latest Surrey Academy graduate to receive a call up for the Three Lions. The wicket-keeper batter has become a crucial part of the Surrey side and is the team’s leading run scorer with 729 at an average of 42.9 in the County Championship this year.

Smith received his Surrey County Cap in the victory over Warwickshire at The Kia Oval, recognising his importance to the team. He played for England A in Sri Lanka last winter, scoring the fastest ever red-ball century – bringing up three figures off just 71 deliveries.

Team-mate Jacks has played 10 games in all formats for England after making his IT20 debut in Pakistan last year. The all-rounder has been one of the best white-ball cricketers in English domestic cricket over the last few years, with his powerful stroke-play and street-wise bowling.

Smith’s call up brings the number of Surrey players who have been part of England squads in the last month to seven, with six of them having been developed by the Surrey Talent Pathway. Smith’s team-mates Gus Atkinson, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Reece Topley and Jason Roy have all been part of the white-ball series against New Zealand.

The Ireland ODI series starts on 20 September and the third and final fixture is on 26 September; the series coincides with Surrey’s fixtures against Northants (19-22 September) and Hampshire (26-29 September).

Atkinson, Curran, Roy and Topley will be unavailable for Surrey for the rest of the season due to their involvement in the ODI World Cup which starts on 5 October.
