Player Bio

The latest player from Surrey's pathway looking to make his mark at county level.

Geddes, who first represented the Club at under-9 level, made his senior debut in all competitions for Surrey in 2021. A powerful right-handed top and middle order batsman, leading into the 2023 season, Geddes has scored 299 runs, including two centuries, at a healthy average of 42.71 in 5 first-class matches.

A former pupil at St John’s Leatherhead school, after leading Surrey’s U17s to the national title in the English summer of 2019, he played grade cricket for University in New South Wales across the 2019/20 Australian summer.

First-team captain at Ashtead Cricket Club in the Surrey Championship at the age of 19, Geddes appeared constantly in Surrey’s pre-season preparations for the 2021 season and was a regular feature in the Club’s 2nd XI in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he eventually signed his first professional contract and joined the men’s squad, playing full-time.

On signing his first professional contract, Geddes said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. I remember coming to games at The Kia Oval and watching as a young kid. I started playing for Surrey at age nine so to sign my first professional contract at 19 is really a dream come true. I can’t wait to get stuck in this summer.”

Surrey Director of Cricket Alec Stewart said: “One of the nicer parts of this job is awarding young players who have come through our own system their very first professional contracts.

“Ben has earned his contract with the potential and progress he has shown which has been further developed while training with the squad and playing in the 2nd team. I’m looking forward to seeing him perform over the coming years.”

Geddes made an impression in the Vitality Blast & Royal London Cup in his initial seasons and will be hoping to build on that in the years to come. In 2022, Geddes scored 176 runs from 4 innings at an average of 44 as Surrey won the County Championship.
