After only 3.1 overs were possible due to rain on the first day, Surrey produced a disciplined bowling performance on day two of their Second XI Championship match against Nottinghamshire before reaching 10 for 1 at the close at the LSE Sportsground.

After opting to bowl, Surrey kept the visitors in check for much of the innings and ensured Nottingham were unable to build any substantial partnerships, eventually dismissing them for 217 in 76.1 overs, with Surrey’s attack sharing the wickets evenly.

Jack Martin delivered the most economical spell of the innings, taking 2 for 12 from six overs, while Adam Thomas claimed 2 for 25. Tommy Ealham also picked up two wickets, and Alex French maintained pressure throughout a controlled 16-over spell, which returned figures of 1 for 31.

Nottinghamshire’s innings was built around several steady contributions rather than one dominant performance. Farhan Ahmed top-scored with 59 from 103 deliveries, and H Rogers added 41, while B Martindale made 30 at the top of the order. Surrey, however, continued to make regular breakthroughs at key moments.

The visitors progressed from 46 for 1 to 90 for 3 before Ahmed and Rogers added some stability in the middle order, adding 94 runs for the fourth wicket. Surrey responded well in the latter stages of the innings, taking the final five wickets for 33 runs to bring the innings to a close.

Surrey then faced a brief spell before stumps and lost an early wicket when Ryan Patel was caught at midwicket by Farhan Ahmed off R Lord.

Captain Adam Thomas made a confident start in reply, finishing unbeaten on 10 from 12 balls with two boundaries, while Josh Blake remained alongside him at the close.

With two days remaining in the four-day contest, Surrey ended day three on 10 for 1, trailing by 207 runs with nine wickets in hand.
