With around two months until Surrey are back in action, what are our cricketers up to around the world throughout the month of February?

In January, we saw Sam Curran play back-to-back Test matches in Sri Lanka and Will Jacks & Jason Roy on our screens from the Big Bash. As the 2021 domestic season in the UK draws nearer, what are our players doing in February?

Tests in India

Rory Burns & Ben Foakes are in England’s initial squad of 16 for the four-match series with India that begins on 5th February.

Ollie Pope is also in India, ready to be added to the squad when passed fit after his left shoulder injury. Amar Virdi is an additional reserve to the squad. After a busy winter so far, Sam Curran is rested for the first two Tests.

The first Test begins at 4am on 5th February, the second on the 13th & third on 24th. The fourth will be played in early March. UK television rights have not yet been decided for this series.

England Women in New Zealand

Sophia Dunkley & Nat Sciver have both landed in New Zealand with the rest of the England squad for a period of isolation ahead of next month’s three ODIs.

The first match will be on 23rd February, second on 25th February and third on 27th February. Then will follow three T20Is at the start of March.

Big Bash League

After finishing second in the table, Jason Roy’s Perth Scorchers will have two chances to reach the 6th February final.

First, they face Sydney Sixers on 30th January. Should they win, they’ll be in the final. Should they lose, they’ll need to beat the winner of the Knockout match on 4th February.

Jason has enjoyed a very productive BBL so far with 352 runs from 11 innings with one not out at an average of 35.20. BBL matches can be seen live on BT Sport.

Abu Dhabi T10

The annual T10 league in Abu Dhabi is back with its intense schedule once more. Laurie Evans will play for Maratha Arabians & Jamie Overton for Team Abu Dhabi in the competition.

They begin in different groups but by the time February begins, all eight sides will have moved to the Super League stage. Those matches will all be played between 1st and 4th February with eliminators on the 5th and a Finals Day on 6th February.

Pakistan Super League

Reece Topley has been drafted by Islamabad United for the 2021 Pakistan Super League, that will begin on 20th February.

This will be the second season the competition is held in Pakistan and consist of six sides competing for four places in the play-offs.

IPL Auction

While England’s Test team are India, the IPL Auction for the 2021 edition of the competition will be completed. While the date for this hasn’t been finalised yet, it will not take place while a Test match between India & England is in progress.

Training at The Kia Oval

Those not involved in competitions around the globe will continue training at The Kia Oval. Having moved the gym to the Jardine Suite at the Vauxhall End of the ground, the players are strictly working in a socially distant manner. With the marquee already constructed on the square, players will be moving in throughout the month.
