Surrey Women set themselves up for a tilt at the London Championship title by thrashing Essex at Gidea Park & Romford CC on Monday.

Having beat Kent on Friday, Hannah Jones’ side now know that victory over Middlesex at Guildford next week would see them win the inaugural edition of the 50 over tournament.

Bowling first in this one, a disciplined Surrey display with the ball and in the field kept Essex to just 135/9 from their allotted overs. Alice Capsey & Jones were the star bowlers, claiming figures of 3/12 and 3/17 respectively.

They chased that down with a whopping eight wickets and 24 overs remaining.

It was slow progress for Essex in setting the total to chase with the run rate rarely edging over three.

As well as the three wickets each for Jones & Capsey, seamers Eva Gray and Beth Kerins both claimed one for themselves. Kirstie White’s run out of opener Jessica Bird completes the wickets column for Surrey with Essex having just one wicket left at the end of their 50 overs.

In response, openers White and Kira Chathli did much of the hard work with their stand of 65 before White went for a run-a-ball 39.

Aylish Cranstone joined Chathli and remained there until the end, scoring 48. Chathli went for 33 with Surrey needing just another 12 to win.
