Surrey and England allrounder Alice Capsey paid a visit to her childhood cricket club over the winter to deliver a batting masterclass to a cohort of aspiring cricket players.

Capsey visited a Reigate Priory session in Redhill to deliver a batting masterclass to the U15 Girls team after returning from a strong winter at the ICC Women’s World Cup and WBBL in Australia.

Capsey had a strong tournament with bat and ball, posting a well fought half-century in the semi-final defeat to South Africa.

Having grown up in the Surrey area, the England international was eager to meet rising talent of the next generation at the Club she represented from the age of 10.

The session was designed to integrate both players and Alice Capsey ahead of this year’s Women’s World Cup, with the hopes to inspire incoming generations to support their local talent on an international stage.

The afternoon began with a Q&A session in which the Reigate Llamas had the opportunity to pick the brains of Capsey’s recent form before diving into a batting masterclass which focused on Capsey’s iconic sweep shot. The session concluded with satisfied players and coaches having had the chance to interact with each other throughout.

Alice Capsey said, “It was a fantastic opportunity to return to my childhood club today. Reigate was very supportive of me growing up so if I have repaid that by helping out their young talent today, then I am very grateful for that chance.

“The team was great to work with. They were really receptive and you can definitely tell there is an excitement growing around women’s cricket at the domestic level. I hope that sessions like today continue to spark excitement and hopefully we will see some of those faces in the crowd at the World Cup this summer, and at the Kia Oval getting behind Surrey!”

Tania Hillsdon, the club’s coaching representative, said, “It has been a real pleasure to have Alice back today. Seeing how far she has gone since her time at Reigate, to where she is now, will be a huge inspiration to the girls at the club.

“Carving out a clear pathway to success and the potential of playing in a home World Cup is exactly what young players need in order to be excited to play themselves.”
