Surrey Second XI battled hard with the bat down at the Ageas Bowl against Hampshire Second XI on the third day of their County Championship match, racking up 401 in response to the home side’s 439.

Wicketkeeper Josh Blake and all-rounder Tom Lawes started the day off well with a partnership of 78, Blake making a well-deserved half-century and late on Amar Virdi added an unbeaten 50 of his own. When Hampshire batted, they reached 146/1, a lead of 184.

Assistant coach Jim Troughton says: “I’m very pleased with today. We batted well, almost got up to their score and strung some good partnerships together. The lads all got some time in the middle and that has to be good. We were a bit inconsistent with the ball and they got away from us slightly but we pulled it back in the last 40 minutes and the match is well-poised with all results possible tomorrow. We’ll have to see where it goes!”

Updates on the match will provided on Surrey CCC social media channels, a live score will be available to follow on the NV Play platform and full reports of each day’s play will be posted on kiaoval.com every evening.
