A flurry of late wickets and crucial 77 from Will Tripcony put Surrey in a strong position at the end of their Second XI Championship match against Nottinghamshire
The Three Feathers started the third day of their Second XI Championship match with Nottinghamshire knowing time wasn’t on their side due to losing all but three overs of the second day.
Resuming on 10/1, Surrey lost Josh Blake with the first ball of the day. Gorantla fell six overs later to leave Surrey 32/3.
All-rounder Ralphie Albert joined Adam Thomas (32), but the pair could only 21 more runs before Rob Lord picked up his fourth wicket to leave the Three Feathers 53/4, 163 runs behind.
In difficult conditions, Will Tripcony joined Albert and the pair opted for a cautious approach in the face of some tough bowling.
The runs began to appear, with the pair starting to find the boundary, with Tripcony moving to his half-century with a six off Farhan Ahmed. Ralphie Albert moved his patient half-century five overs later from 96 balls.
Albert, who played in the opening County Championship match of the season, depated for 57 when Farhan Ahmed caught him off his own bowling to leave Surrey in a healthy 185/5. Albert and Tripcony had put on 132 runs for the fifth wicket to give Surrey the upper hand.
Top-scorer Tripcony departed six balls later for 77. Ealham (9), French (8) and Stuart-Reckling departed quickly, before some vital lower-order runs by George McLoughlin (27) helped Surrey to 245, a lead of 28.
Surrey finished the day well on top, as the relentless pressure of the attack led to a flurry of late wickets. Seb Stuart-Reckling, Alex French and Martin took a wicket apiece, as pressure built with Nottinghamshire adding just 32 runs from the opening 18 overs of their second innings.
