Amar Virdi & Ben Geddes were the star turns as Surrey’s 2nd XI suffered a narrow T20 defeat against Hampshire at The Kia Oval on Wednesday.

Off spinner Virdi took four wickets as Hampshire made 179/7 before Geddes made 83 in an 11-run defeat.

Ryan Patel took two wickets and Justin Broad claimed a run out to have Hampshire 154/3 after 17 overs before Virdi’s final two overs at the death yielded all four of his wickets.

Geddes and captain for the day Mark Stoneman shared a 117 run opening partnership before Stoneman eventually went for 54. Wickets began to fall at that point with no one in the inexperienced middle and lower order reaching double figures. The pressure eventually told on Geddes who caught trying to clear the rope before Surrey were eventually bowled out for 168.
