Surrey’s Laurie Evans led the way as Perth Scorchers completed a dominant Big Bash League campaign with victory over Sydney Sixers in the BBL Final.

Coming to the crease with his 25/4, Evans smoked 76* off 41 balls with four boundaries and four sixes – at a strike rate of 185.36. His match winning efforts saw him named Player of the Match.

The Lambeth born batter, who worked his way through the Surrey Academy as a young player, added 104 with his captain Ashton Turner and another 29 with Ashton Agar, his innings accounting for 44% of the Scorchers’ runs.

A Covid hit Sixers side, featuring former Surrey overseas players Moises Henriques and Sean Abbott, were unable to stay with the rate as they lost regular wickets – with only Daniel Hughes (42) scoring more than 15 runs and eight batters being dismissed in single figures.
