In partnership with the Daniel Baird Foundation (DBF), six bleed control kits have been installed at The Kia Oval ahead of the 2024 season. These kits, which can provide potentially lifesaving first-aid, are placed beside each defibrillator around the ground.

Bleed control kits are specialised trauma kits designed to provide visitors, employees, contractors and the general public with the equipment they need to seal wounds and stop life-threatening bleeding until the paramedics arrive, potentially saving lives.

Following the completion of a First Aid Risk Assessment this winter, it was identified that bleed control kits were required at The Kia Oval and were purchased in support of the DBF.

DBF is a charity that campaigns for the importance of having publicly accessible bleeding control packs. It was set up by the Baird family in memory of their brother and son Daniel Baird, who was fatally stabbed outside a pub in Birmingham in 2017 and tragically passed away due to catastrophic bleeding, shortly after reaching a hospital.

The kits are invaluable in public spaces that receive high footfall as well as workplace situations where injuries caused by machinery could result in excessive bleeding.

Grant Worrall, Head of Health and Safety at Surrey CCC, said: “Having bleed control kits on the ground means we can provide life-saving treatment within minutes before emergency services arrive.

“Health and safety is an area that is constantly scrutinised and assessed at The Kia Oval in order to keep improving our facilities and make sure that our venue remains a welcoming and safe place for everyone.

“The Daniel Baird Foundation are raising awareness for an important cause and we are happy that we have been able to support them while further upgrading the first-aid equipment at The Kia Oval.”
