England are out of the 2021 T20 World Cup after defeat against New Zealand in the first semi-final in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Surrey’s Jason Roy had to sit out the match after injuring his calf during the final group game against South Africa, meaning Chris Jordan was our Club’s only representative in the fixture. Tom Curran & Reece Topley were also in the squad but remained unused throughout the tournament.

Roy had been an integral part of England’s group stage, scoring 123 runs across the five games, with a highest score of 61 in an eight-wicket thrashing of Bangladesh.

Roy was expected to stay in the UAE for the upcoming T10 League but will now focus on returning to match fitness for the January white-ball tour of West Indies. Will Jacks & Jamie Overton will fly out to Abu Dhabi to join Jordan & Topley, who will all compete in the competition.

Across the tournament, Jordan took six wickets from 19 overs including a stand-out performance of 3/17 against Australia. Jordan has returned to Surrey after nine seasons away and will captain our Vitality Blast side in 2022.

Elsewhere in international cricket, Rory Burns, Ben Foakes, Ollie Pope & Jamie Smith have landed safely in Australia and are preparing for the upcoming tour fixtures ahead of the start of the Ashes on the 8th December.
