Laurie Evans’ Lanka Premier League stint with Colombo Kings ended with semi-final defeat to Galle Gladiators on Sunday.

The Surrey batsman was in fine form throughout the group stage for the Kings, led by former spinner Rangana Herath, but was ruled out for the semi-final.

His injury meant he watched from the sideline as his side were defeated by Galle Gladiators, despite winning four more matches than them in the group stage.

Having been drawn against the Gladiators because they finished top of the group and Gladiators took the final semi-final slot, Kings were favourites going in to the match.

Without Evans they made 150/9 from their 20 overs, which Gladiators chased down with one ball and two wickets to spare.

Evans scored 289 runs in eight appearances in the tournament at a whopping average of 57.8, including a career best score of 108*.
