Tash Farrant has been named captain of the South East Stars, the side representing Surrey & Kent in women’s regional cricket, for the 2021 season.
Kent & England bowler Farrant led the team during the inaugural Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy earlier this year and has been asked to continue in the role next year by new Head Coach Johann Myburgh.
As one of the five players in the first cohort of domestic professionals contracted to South East Stars, Farrant will train alongside the wider squad and support staff throughout the winter.
While the regional schedule for 2021 is yet to be finalised, it is expected that the first team will face sides representing the other centres of excellence around the country in both 50 over and 20 over cricket & continue to grow their academy programmes in their region.
On being named captain, Farrant said: “I’m delighted to be named captain of the South East Stars. It’s a real honour and a privilege for me and I feel quite proud of this role. When Johann asked me if I wanted to do it, I didn’t even have to think about it. It was a no-brainer.”
Myburgh added: “I heard a lot of good thing about Tash and the way she led the team in the summer. Having had the opportunity to get to know her, it didn’t take me a long time to confirm all the good things I had heard about her.
“She’s a natural leader and there’s great energy about her. I believe she’s going to lead from the front.”
