Surrey Academy fast bowler Nathan Barnwell was the star of the show for England U19s in Wednesday’s third ODI with West Indies at Beckenham.

Barnwell claimed three wickets for 30 runs from his five overs at the top of the innings, including the wickets of both of the touring openers.

He made the initial breakthrough by forcing opener Jaggessar into a drive that he could only outside edge to second slip. The second followed almost immediately, this time with Amurdan swatting our man straight to cover.

Barnwell’s third and final wicket of the day was perhaps the most emphatic, bowling lower order batsman Clarke with a perfectly pitched yorker that rocked his off stump back.

A tall, powerful bowler who already bowls at high speeds despite being just 18, Ashford-born Barnwell has represented Surrey since U14s at County Cup level and recently performed in some 2nd XI matches for the Club.

He made his England U19s debut in the 2nd ODI on Monday. The series is now 2-1 in England’s favour with the final match to be played at Polo Farm, Canterbury on Friday. Entry is free for all or you can follow via the live scorecard here.
