Surrey and England batsman Jason Roy has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for this year’s Indian Premier League, replacing Australian Mitch Marsh.

Marsh has made himself unavailable for the competition for personal reasons, allowing Sunrisers the competition to select a new player after the formal drafting process.

Roy made his IPL debut in 2017 playing for Gujarat Lions & later featured for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the 2018 IPL edition. He has played a total of 8 matches and scored 179 runs with one half-century to his name. Sunrisers Hyderabad have acquired Roy at his base price of INR 2 Crore.

This comes off the back of Roy’s recent tour of India with England, where he played in all eight white-ball fixtures, scoring 115 runs in three ODIs and 144 runs in five T20Is.

Roy will now be unavailable for selection for Surrey for the months of April & May, with the IPL set to finish on the 30th May. He joins Sam & Tom Curran in the competition, with Sam to play for Chennai Super Kings & Tom for Delhi Capitals.
