SURREY SQUAD

Surrey name a 14-player squad for the trip to Taunton.

Sean Abbott has been withdrawn by the squad by Cricket Australia to manage workloads ahead of any future selection for the national team.

LAST TIME OUT

Surrey beat Middlesex by eight wickets at Lord’s last week. After losing the toss and being sent in, Rory Burns scored 79 and Jamie Smith scored a magnificent 138 as Surrey posted 433. Jordan Clark continued his fine form with the bat with 78.

With the ball, Surrey consistently took wickets as Middlesex were bowled out for 238. Sean Abbott, Jamie Overton and Tom Lawes took three wickets apiece.

Rory Burns was rewarded with his decision to make Middlesex follow on. Former Surrey opener Mark Stoneman scored 72 at the top of the order for Middlesex but Surrey kept chipping away. Sean Abbott took 4/60 in his final appearance for Surrey this season as Middlesex were bowled out for 272. Some late hitting by Ethan Bamber forced Surrey to bat again the fourth innings of the match.

Surrey needed 78 runs for victory from three sessions. Despite losing Burns and Smith early in the chase, Will Jacks scored 45 not out from 35 balls as Surrey eased to victory – taking 22 points from the victory.

SOMERSET

Somerset sit fourth in Division One with 122 points. They have won three, lost two and drawn five of their games so far this season.

Matt Henry, Craig Overton and Lewis Gregory have each taken 26 wickets so far this season. Matt Henry has taken his 26 wickets at an average of 16.84 from his five matches.

Former Surrey Academy spinner Shoaib Bashir has impressed in his opening four First Class matches, taking 8 wickets.

Left-handed wicketkeeper batter James Rew sits top of the County Championship run-scoring charts with 974 runs. He has scored five centuries with a best of 221 vs Hampshire at Taunton.

LAST TIME OUT V SOMERSET

Surrey beat Somerset at Taunton last season in a thrilling game of cricket. Somerset were bowled out for 180 as Jamie Overton wreaked havoc at Taunton.

Overton’s fiery spell forced Josh Davey to retire hurt and forced his brother Craig off the field for a prolonged period. Overton took 3/34 as Somerset were bowled out for 180.

Rory Burns continued his fine form at Taunton, scoring 113 as Surrey scored 382. Will Jacks added 88 and Jordan Clark added 63 not out to help Surrey to a 202-run lead.

Somerset fought back with 394 as Lewis Gregory scored 110 not out. Surrey were given a target of 193 to chase on the final day – which they did so with three wickets to spare as Will Jacks scored a quick-fire 62.
