Surrey County Cricket Club have appointed four new Honorary Life Vice Presidents, alongside five new Honorary Life Members and the Club’s second ever Female President.

These new appointees were confirmed at the recent Annual General Meeting, alongside a new Deputy President, Honorary Treasurer and four elections to the General Committee.

Patricia Garrard takes over as President, succeeding former President David Pakeman.

Patricia has been a Member of Surrey CCC since 1985, and in 1992 became the first female Member to be elected to the General Committee. She served as Vice President in 2021 and 2022.

Former Surrey Chair, and current ECB Chair, Richard Thompson has been made an Honorary Life Vice President alongside departing Club President David Pakeman, former Honorary Treasurer Alan Dickinson and Honorary Life Member Barry Kitcherside.

Thompson stepped down from his role at Surrey in 2022 after over a decade of distinguished service.

Honorary Life Vice Presidency is the highest honorary award given by the Club and is awarded very sparingly to those whose service to the Club or to cricket generally has been of such outstanding merit and length so as to distinguish them from other Honorary Members of the Club.

Also at the AGM, Honorary Life Membership was awarded to recently retired batter Hashim Amla, alongside Patsy Lovell MBE, Andy Major, Ian Jamieson and Medha Laud MBE.

In other appointments, Current interim Chair Martin Eadon has been re-appointed Honorary Treasurer, whilst Lord Anthony Grabiner KC has been named the Club’s Deputy President.

The Lord Grabiner is a long-standing Member of both Surrey CCC and the MCC. He previously sat on the Surrey CCC Management Board between 2011 and 2021, and also served on the MCC Development Committee.

The Club have also confirmed the election of four Members to the General Committee.

This year saw an online election service used for the first time, and after a record number of votes were cast, the following Members were elected to the General Committee:

Patrick Pocock

Patrick ‘Percy’ Pocock played for Surrey from 1962-1986, retiring as Captain. He joined the Club’s Marketing Committee upon retirement, serving for eight years whilst Brian Downing was Chair. Since that time, he has completed seven terms of four years on the General Committee.

Mike Reeve

Mike has been involved in all aspects of Club cricket in Surrey, both as a player and officer, including a stint as a Club Chair for 35 years. He previously served on the General Committee between 2016 and 2020, as well as being a member of the Surrey Senior Cricket Association and a founder of the Surrey Dining Club.

Kieran Kumaria

Kieran Kumaria first joined Surrey in 2007 after leaving university, having himself represented Hong Kong at Senior, U19 and U15 levels. Passionate about the work of the Foundation and the ACE Programme, Kieran said in the candidate statement booklet he wanted to help “the Club do even more, even faster.”

Chris Payne

A Surrey Members since 1979, Chris Payne has previously sat on the General Committee in 2011 and again between 2015 and 2019. Also a member of the Members’ Liaison Group and the Surrey Dining Club, Chris is passionate about the County Championship and the continued collaboration between the first-class counties.
