MATCH CENTRE

Following the opening contest against Kent, this year’s 50-over campaign will see Surrey take on Essex (27 June), Middlesex (20 July), and Sussex (20 August). Each victory will bring the winners 10 points, with batting and bowling bonus points also to be won. The team that finishes on the top of the table after four rounds of matches, will get their hands on the trophy.

SQUAD

Surrey have named a 12-player squad, with the bowling substitution allowing each of them to feature in some capacity.

The game will begin at 11 am. Surrey’s social channels will provide regular live updates, with a report being published on the website at the end of the match.

LAST TIME OUT

With the previous ECB 50-over fixture against Essex being washed out without a ball being bowled, the last time Surrey took the field was against Hampshire, when they comprehensively defeated them by seven wickets with over 33 remaining in their innings.

Priya Khatkar (5/10) and Charlotte Stubbs (3/13) wreaked havoc with the ball, skittling Hampshire for 101, before the batters aced the chase inside 17 overs, with Stubbs (34*) top-scoring, to round off a perfect day for The Three Feathers.

Landing on the spot relentlessly and giving the batter nothing to work with, Khatkar spun a web around Hampshire in her non-stop 10-over spell that concluded with the 25-year-old securing her five-wicket-haul for Surrey, while receiving admirable support from Stubbs, who also bowled a fierce five-over spell.

In their approach of the chase, the Three Feathers were unforgiving and maintained a high tempo, looking to score off every opportunity possible. After quick starts from the top order, an unbeaten, easy-on-the-eye partnership of 60 from 64 balls between Stubbs and Laxmi Johal (24*) took Surrey past the finish line.

KENT

Kent started their one-day campaign positively, defeating Middlesex by 60 runs in their ECB County 50-over opener at Polo Farm in Canterbury.

They posted a target of 199 runs, having elected to bat first, with Genevieve Jeer top-scoring with 46 crucial lower-order runs before picking up an unbelievable 5 for 11 with the ball to win the game for her team.

Jeer was nicely supported by the South East Stars’ duo Alexa Stonehouse (3/31) and Tilly Corteen-Coleman (1/19).

Similar to Surrey, their second fixture of the competition, which was against Sussex, had to be abandoned.
