Surrey County Cricket Club has launched a new ‘Video Assessment’ process to improve the identification of young cricketers who want to join the Club’s Talent Pathway.

The new video application process will allow anyone who believes they are of the ability to be a Surrey CCC Performance cricketer to nominate themselves. Previously, only local clubs, schools and other cricketing organisations have been able to nominate players for an assessment.

All applicants will need to fit the eligibility criteria, submit a video, in line with the highlighted protocols and complete the assessment consent form. Videos will be submitted via WhatsApp.

Players must live or go to school in Surrey or be registered at a cricket club in the county. Players must also possess a British Passport or have proof of ‘permanent leave to remain’ in the UK. Boys and girls from U10-U18 (school years 5 to 13), can apply.

The aim of this new method of talent identification is to give equal access to the Talent Pathway to everyone in the county and to make it easy for young cricketers to submit their applications.

There are specific guidelines for batters, bowlers and wicket-keepers as to what needs to be demonstrated and how the videos should be shot. All the information on how to submit an application is available here.

Chris Taylor, Head of Talent Pathway, said: “The Surrey age group assessments are an integral part of our Talent ID process. We aim to reach out to all aspiring young cricketers across the County and provide an improved opportunity for them to showcase their talents.”

Katherine Robson, Head of Women’s and Girls Pathway, said “We look forward to receiving videos from Surrey’s aspiring young cricketers. This new process will allow our Coaches more time to best identify players of interest, but more importantly, help to create an environment for Players to thrive in”.
