Surrey Seniors’ Over 70s side became the national champions after victory over Cheshire in the Championship Cup final at Kidderminster Cricket Club on Thursday.
An unbeaten 96 off 97 balls from opener Andrew Peters led Surrey comfortably to the required total of 183 runs from 40 overs with nine wickets and 4.5 overs to spare.
Peters was well supported by fellow opener John Hall, who made 48 before he was bowled, and captain Mike Byford, who was 32 not out come the end of the match.

Byford & Hall were also crucial with the ball, with Byford taking 2/24 from his eight overs and Hall 1/24. Robert Brown & Barry Hart were the other bowlers to take wickets while Neil Sunderland & Andrew Barton helped keeping the run rate down.
Surrey reached the final with equally comprehensive victories over Essex & Sussex last month.
