Following their travels up north, Surrey return home for two Metro Bank One Day Cup fixtures at Guildford Cricket Club, beginning with the clash against Lancashire tomorrow.

Rory Burns’ side will be hoping to bounce back, having fallen just short in a one-wicket thriller against Yorkshire on Tuesday.

SURREY

Surrey name an 11-player squad for the visit of Lancashire, with injuries ravaging the staff as well as the loss of 12 players to The Hundred.

Yousef Majid suffered a hamstring strain whilst fielding against Yorkshire. Ben Foakes twisted his ankle whilst batting against Yorkshire and is unavailable. Matt Dunn and Jordan Clark both sustained injuries earlier in the competition.

Tom Lawes has been released by the Oval Invincibles for one game.

LAST TIME OUT

Finding solutions under pressure with the bat and then later on in the field, Surrey showed great character and fight but Yorkshire, who won by one wicket, narrowly edged them out at York.

Invited to bat first, Surrey posted 241 runs on the board, with Ben Geddes playing a fantastic counter-attacking knock of 92 off 90 – his highest List A score to date. Called in to bat at 59/4, the 22-year-old had pushed the Three Feathers to a fightable score by the time his wicket fell on 231/8. Conor McKerr (32), Dom Sibley (30), Josh Blake (25), and Ben Foakes (25) looked in good touch during their cameos.

Surrey got the start they needed in the second innings, claiming two early Yorkshire wickets before the hosts build two important and aggressive partnerships, taking them to 141/3. However, from here on, the tide turned as Cam Steel claimed three wickets to underpin Yorkshire’s collapse, who found themselves 210/9, requiring 32 more runs for victory. Steel was aided by his fellow spinners Amar Virdi (2/48) and Dan Moriarty (1/47), who also impressed with the ball and kept things tight.

The final wicket pairing of opener Harry Duke (93*) and number eleven Dom Leech (18*) navigated through a tense period of play and ultimately took the hosts to victory with nine balls to spare.

LANCASHIRE

Lancashire sit sixth in the standings with four points to their name. Out of their five fixtures, they have lost twice and won once, which was against Kent Spitfires, while their remaining two games had to be abandoned.

In their latest encounter, they were chasing 235 runs against Hampshire but fell short by 11 runs in what was a nervy finish at Emirates Old Trafford. Will Williams (3/30) and Jack Morley (3/40) were excellent with the ball in the first innings, while George Lavelle (57) and George Balderson (44) orchestrated the Red Rose’s reply, but Hampshire emerged victorious due to Brad Wheal’s brilliant 5/47.

Josh Bohannon, Dane Villas, and Keaton Jennings have been the primary run-scorers for Lancashire, with each of them averaging in excess of 40. Jack Blatherwick is topping the wicket charts for his side with nine scalps and is followed by Balderson, Williams, and Morley, who have collected five wickets apiece.
