Surrey Women lost their London Cup crown on Wednesday evening, when they were beaten by eight wickets by their Middlesex counterparts at Radlett CC.

Defending the trophy for the first time in its history after victory in last year’s Kia Oval meeting, Hannah Jones’ side lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

Surrey lost three wickets in the powerplay but it was captain and lower order batter Jones who led the rebuild, making 42 to drag Surrey to 124/7 from their 20 overs. Kirstie White (26), Alice Capsey (19) and Eva Gray (15) were the only other batters to reach double figures.

Skipper Naomi Dattani was the star of the show for Middlesex, scoring 50 before Amy Gordon forced her to go aerial. She had already lost opening partner Cordelia Griffith for 8, lbw to Kerins. Amara Carr and Natasha Miles guided the hosts home in the 19th over.
