Kate Coppack’s career-best 5-22 on her home debut led the rout as Surrey secured a bonus point victory over Warwickshire in a crucial Metro Bank One Day Cup fixture in south London.
Coppack, already signed from Essex for the 2027 season, is currently on loan and proved unplayable on a sunny September morning, ripping through the heart of the visitors’ top order. Alice Monaghan weighed in with 3-10 while Suné Luus took 2-19.
Surrey chased down the target in only 62 balls without losing a wicket, Rachel King (41 from 35) finishing the match with her second six, while Alice Monaghan was unbeaten on 16. Surrey picked up a bonus point for the victory, which could yet prove crucial in their chase for the final eliminator spot.
Coppack’s heroics began in the opening over, where Meg Austin was caught behind for a duck. Even so, no-one expected the carnage that followed.
Luus pinned Amu Surenkumar lbw attempting to sweep, before Coppack took centre stage again with two wickets in one over.
Brooke Halliday was deceived by one which appeared to stick in the pitch and took the leading edge before ballooning back to Coppack and four balls later Abi Freeborn was sent on her way after thick edging a ball to Rachel King in the gully.
In-form Katie George resisted briefly, playing one wristy shot for four, but she too was undone by a beauty from Coppack which went between bat and pad and scattered the stumps. The five-fer was completed shortly afterwards when Nat Wraith was caught behind.
By that stage Charis Pavely had also gone without troubling the scorers, and even though Coppack finally made way, the bowling change brought no relief as Monaghan spreadeagled Em Arlott’s stumps, making her the fourth Bears’ batter to depart for a duck.
Mary Taylor also fell to Monaghan, caught behind, and it needed the last pair to drag Warwickshire beyond 50.
