Surrey’s new Vitality Blast captain Chris Jordan has vowed to make fans proud of his team after the 2022 fixtures were announced on Thursday.

Jordan has returned to Surrey, where he began his professional career, and will lead the Club in T20 cricket in the coming season.

Having been with Sussex since 2013 and a regular in the England white-ball sides since 2014, the all-rounder has sampled the famous Kia Oval atmosphere but leading out the home team on an evening of Vitality Blast cricket will be something new entirely.

And despite the 33-year-old having played in T20 tournaments around the world and become England’s leading wicket taker in the format, it’s clear that he’s chomping at the bit to get going in May.

Speaking after seeing the fixtures on Thursday, he said: “I was already excited about my return to Surrey and The Kia Oval as T20 captain and now the fixtures are out it feels even more real. I can’t wait for some incredible evenings in front of a packed house at one of the best stadiums in the world.

“Having played in front of the crowds at the Kia Oval I know the atmosphere that’s generated is special. As a team we’ll be doing everything we can to entertain and play in a fashion that the fans can be proud of.”

Jordan will also be available for Surrey in all formats, with Club captain Rory Burns expected to be in charge of the LV= County Championship team. He is currently in the West Indies, where England will begin a T20I series against their hosts on Saturday.

Surrey made the final of the Vitality Blast in 2020 but were eliminated at the group stage in 2021.
