The Kia Oval recently welcomed Lambeth ‘Men’s Walk and Talk Group’ for a guided tour of the famous old ground.

Men’s Walk and Talk are a local group that provides a safe space for men of different ages and encourages them to open up about their mental health and support each other’s wellbeing. The community group, consisting of around 50 local men with Caribbean and African heritage, regularly ventures to a variety of locations across south London and beyond.

They made their way to the ground on Sunday, 22 October and were shown around by one of the ground’s knowledgeable tour guides, who took the group around The Kia Oval, explaining the multitude of historic events that have taken place at The Oval during its 178 year and counting history.

Chakke Sombe, founder of Men’s Walk and Talk, said: “This was an amazing opportunity and experience we had on Sunday. Carol, our guide, was absolutely brilliant. To keep 21 men engaged for two hours is a great feat in itself!”

Jon Surtees, Head of Community, Public Affairs and Projects at Surrey CCC, added: “Thanks to Chakka and his group for choosing to come and look around The Kia Oval. We’re always looking for ways to throw open our doors to the local community and show people our ground and the amazing heritage here, so we’re delighted they had such a good time!”
