Surrey fast bowler Matthew Fisher has been added to England’s Ashes squad down under, replacing the injured Mark Wood.

Fisher, who has been in Australia with the England Lions, joined Surrey after the 2024 season and enjoyed an impressive first season with the Three Feathers this summer.

Regarded for his ability to seam and swing the ball either way, and for hitting a persistent line and length, the 28-year-old grew in stature throughout the season, taking 31 Championship wickets in 11 matches, including a career-best 11/134 against Nottinghamshire.

The right-arm seamer made his England Test debut against West Indies in 2022 and has 175 First-Class wickets at an average of 28, including a career best of 6-73. Fisher is also able to add useful lower-order runs with the bat.

He will be joining up with the national side ahead of the third Test of the series in Adelaide.
