Surrey host Middlesex at The Kia Oval this week in support of Dravet Syndrome UK and the Dunn family

HOW CAN I KEEP UP WITH THE GAME

The full game is being broadcast on Sky Sports Cricket, with parts of the game being broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event.

Surrey’s social media channels will post regular updates from The Kia Oval, with a report being published at the end of each day and the highlights being posted the following morning at kiaoval.com.

SUPPORT FOR DUNN FAMILY

At lunchtime on day one, Surrey’s Matt Dunn and a team of runners will be arriving at the ground having run from Lord’s this morning.

Matt and his family are fundraising for Dravet Syndrome UK in memory of their daughter Florence who tragically passed away in May – aged just two-years-old. The Dunn family are covering 5k every day in May to raise funds and awareness of the condition.

We ask everyone in the ground today to stay in their seats during the start of the lunch interval to welcome Matt and the runners to the ground and show their support.

During this week’s game, Surrey are partnering with Dravet Syndrome UK to increase awareness of the condition. The charity is dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by Dravet Syndrome through support, education and medical research. They supported Florence, and the Dunn family, throughout her life with the condition.

SURREY SQUAD

Surrey have named a 13-player squad for the visit of Middlesex.

As an ECB centrally contracted player England have chosen to rest Ollie Pope for this fixture ahead of the international summer. Ollie will be available for selection next week.

LAST TIME OUT

Jamie Smith helped Surrey to a draw against Essex at Chelmsford last weekend.

The Surrey batter scored an unbeaten 39 from 126 balls as Surrey held on for a tense draw.

The hosts won the toss and batted first, scoring 314 thanks to cameos from Alastair Cook (51), Tom Westley (62) and Matt Critchley (60). Gus Atkinson impressed with the ball on his return to the team, taking career best figures of 6/68 on the first day.

Surrey responded with a below par 240, as Dom Sibley top scored with 48. Rory Burns’ side lost wickets at regular intervals on a tricky pitch.

Most of the third day was washed out, meaning the hosts looked to score quickly on day four. They lost wickets at regular intervals, being bowled out for 198 in 51 overs. Jordan Clark ended with second innings figures of 4/58.

Surrey had been asked to chase down a not inconceivable 273 in 54 overs. At 103/6, Jamie Smith, with help from the lower order, batted out 25 overs as Surrey settled for the draw in a tense final session.

Surrey took 8 points from the match, with Essex taking 10.

MIDDLESEX

Our London neighbours currently sit in fifth place in Division One of the LV= Insurance County Championship, having won two of their opening four matches.

So far this season, Middlesex have beaten Nottinghamshire in a final day thriller at Lord’s before comfortably beating Kent by nine wickets.

LAST TIME OUT VS MIDDLESEX

Surrey and Middlesex haven’t locked horns in First Class cricket since May 2021 at The Kia Oval in front of a limited number of supporters. Middlesex were rewarded for their decision to put Surrey in at the toss as they bowled Surrey out for 190.

However, Kemar Roach and Jordan Clark took four wickets apiece as Middlesex were skittled for 160 in just 46.3 overs.

Rory Burns scored 104 not out as Surrey hit 259/2 to set a target of 290 to win. Kemar Roach took 5 wickets as Surrey gave it a good go. However, Nick Gubbins’ defiant century meant that the players shook hands with Middlesex 40 runs short of their target.
