LAST TIME OUT

Surrey will be looking to bounce-back after defeat to Lancashire at The Kia Oval.

Surrey made early in-roads with the ball after Rory Burns opted to send Lancashire in. Sean Abbott was in the wickets as Lancashire got to 119/5. However, Phil Salt’s counter-attacking 56 was well supported from cameos from George Balderson (33) and Jack Blatherwick (35) to take Lancashire to a competitive total of 274. Sean Abbott and Jordan Clark finished with four wickets apiece.

Surrey’s first innings followed a similar course to their visitors. Early wickets left Surrey 15/2, then 107/5. However, a counter attacking sixth wicket partnership between Will Jacks (64) and the returning Sam Curran (52) got Surrey back into the game. At 230/9, a first innings lead seemed unlikely. Sean Abbott had other ideas however. He smashed 87 not out, while Dan Worrall scored a career high First-Class score of 51 as Surrey posted 360 – a first innings lead of 86.

Surrey took wickets at regular intervals in the second innings. However, nightwatchman Will Williams scored a career best 66 from 220 balls to frustrate Surrey. Phil Salt also added a second half century of the match as Lancashire posted 293 from their second innings.

Set a target of 208 to win, Surrey’s were reduced to 7/2. Unfortunately, Surrey’s innings didn’t recover, and the Three Feathers were dismissed for 84 to give Lancashire victory by 123 runs.
