Surrey recently welcomed the women’s team of Cricket Brasil, one of the Club’s overseas charity partners, at the Kia Oval.

The Club supports the growth and development of cricket in Brasil via the Oval Cricket Relief Trust, helping expand and improve the quality of facilities, player and coach development and access to the sport for young people.

The reigning South American champions travelled to the UK for a tri-series against Jersey and the Isle of Man, where they went unbeaten. On their visit to Kennington, they were given tour of the Kia Oval, stopping for photos pitch side, in the Long Room and on the Lock Terrace.

In October last year, through the first of three annual grants worth £20,000, the Club supported the opening of a brand-new High-Performance Centre in Poços de Caldas, which is now the base for both the women’s and men’s national teams.

Associação Brasileira de Cricket was set up in 2001 and became an ICC affiliate country in 2006, receiving T20I status for the men’s and women’s teams in 2018. The organisation aims to achieve success in elite cricket but also use cricket as a way of delivering social change for those in under-served areas.

Speaking about the visit, Roberta Moretti Avery, former Brasil captain and the president of Cricket Brasil, said: “For a lot of the team, this is the first time in this beautiful, historic ground… It’s really good that they are getting inspired by knowing a little bit more about the traditions of the game.”
