Sam and Tom Curran, Chris Jordan and Jason Roy have both been released by their IPL franchises – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
The quartet will now go back into the ‘mega auction’ that is set to take place early next year ahead of the 2022 competition, which will feature two new teams based in Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
Franchises will still be able to re-sign players in the auction, so there remains a chance the Surrey stars could return to their previous teams. The new teams will also be able to sign one overseas player each between now and Christmas Day.
The dates for the 2022 IPL are yet to be announced, but last year’s competition started on April 9th.
